Lewis Hamilton pole as Sebastian Vettel falls in Q1
Formula One championship leader Lewis Hamilton claimed his sixth pole from seven races this season in Canada on Saturday, as Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel failed to make it out of Q1.
Mercedes' Hamilton is looking to bounce back quickly after a misjudged pit stop cost him victory in Monaco last time out, but crashed out during practice on Friday and was slowest during a frustrating FP3.
However, the defending champion found pace when it mattered and topped the timesheets with a time of one minute and 14.393 seconds.
Team-mate Rosberg - the main beneficiary of Hamilton's unfortunate experience on the streets of Monte Carlo - was second, while Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen qualified third.
Vettel complained of power issues after only managing to go 16th fastest - leaving it late to post a quick lap and ultimately falling short.
Felipe Massa was another Q1 casualty, but Williams colleague Valtteri Bottas was fourth ahead of Lotus duo Romain Grosjean and Pastor Maldonado.
Force India and Red Bull rounded off the top 10, with Daniil Kvyat and 2014 Montreal winner Daniel Ricciardo - eighth and ninth respectively - sandwiched between Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez.
McLaren's Jenson Button failed to make it to qualifying after engine trouble in FP3, while Max Verstappen faces a 10-second penalty during Sunday's race.
The Toro Rosso driver had amassed a 15-place grid penalty after colliding with Grosjean in Monaco and changing engines on Saturday but, after only qualifying 12th, was unable to serve his full grid sanction.
