The three friends started the McMass Project and launched a fund raising appeal to an IndieGogo page aiming to open the fast food joint in New Jersey or Philadelphia churches.

Founder Paul Di Lucca, one of the creative directors at Lux Dei design, a church branding agency told UK’s that while many think it’s an insane idea, the project is set to revitalise churches as centres of conversation and cultural engagement. He claims that in the US alone 3 million people leave the church every year.

"Christianity is unable to capture modern audiences. There's a lack of innovation and lack of design thinking in church communities."

The friends are now seeking for funds to buy a MacDonald’s franchise. "A McDonald's will require one million dollars to establish. These funds go primarily towards purchasing a franchise, with twenty percent devoted to construction, and establishing the necessary infrastructure within and around the church," Paul Di Lucca said.
