Brilliant Audrey Werro Becomes Third Woman in History to Break 1:54 in 800m with Fastest Race in 43 Years
Audrey Werro delivered arguably the most impressive performance at the Diamond League in Stockholm this evening. The Swiss athlete ran a brilliant 800-meter race in the women's event, not only outpacing indoor world record holder Keely Hodgkinson but also achieving the third-fastest outdoor time ever in the discipline.
The reigning “European Women’s Rising Star” became only the third woman in history to break the 1:54 barrier. Werro, who launched her attack in the final meters, clinched victory with a time of 1:53.98 minutes – setting a new tournament record, a new Swiss national record, a Diamond League record, and the world's best time for the season. This marks the fastest women's 800m race since Jarmila Kratochvílová's world record (1:53.28) in 1983. Nadezhda Olizarenko holds the second spot on the all-time list with 1:53.43 from 1980.
Hodgkinson set a new British record of 1:54.33 minutes to secure second place in Sweden, while American Roisin Willis improved her personal best to 1:57.56 minutes, finishing third.
