The encounter in West London was overshadowed by events off the pitch after footage surfaced on social media showing a man kicking a rugby ball from a balcony of an adjacent residential building, with the ball landing directly onto the playing surface. Another video captured someone carrying the ball away from the pitch, captioned: "Wrong sport, mate."

Brentford acted swiftly given the clear safety hazard to everyone inside the stadium. In an official statement, the club said:

"Brentford Football Club is aware of an incident where an object was kicked from a height onto the pitch during Saturday's fixture against Liverpool. Such behaviour is dangerous and poses a significant risk of injury. The matter has been reported to the police, and the club is actively assisting authorities with their investigation to identify those responsible and pursue potential criminal prosecution. The safety of supporters, staff, players, and match officials remains our highest priority."
