Militants raid Christian town in Borno

A predominantly Christian town in Maiduguri, Shani, was on Saturday, November 30 raided by suspected Boko Haram militants, leaving scores of people dead.

According to , the militants arrived on motorcycles after nightfall on Saturday, and were throwing bombs. According to the report, a police source told Reuters that they have not been able to verify the death toll as communications to the town had been largely cut off.

Shani, a town in Borno State is the central and most important part of Boko Haram's five-year insurgency, which has displaced more than one million people.

The Boko Haram members who were said to be about 30 in number were throwing bombs and shooting at people fleeing for their lives. They set a number of houses ablaze, including a Police Station and a telecom mast.

According to the Reuters police source, this is the second time the Boko Haram militants have attacked the town in 2014. 11 people were reportedly killed during the last attack in June 2014.
