Jamaican Reggae and Dancehall superstar Buju Banton was the guest on a recent episode of Fat Joe's 'Joe and Jada' Podcast, where the American rapper recounted how he "dissed" BNXN on TV and "forced" him to change his name.

The video clip, which quickly circulated online, garnered reactions from Nigerian observers who took issue with the condescending and disrespectful tone with which Fat Joe narrated the situation which he claimed he "shut down" a "fake guy in Africa" trying to "steal Buju Banton's name."

In the post on his X page, BNXN reacted to Fat Joe's comment by taking a swipe at the rapper whom he accused of haboring hate in his heart towards African music and artists.

"The hate in your heart and your misinformation about African music and its artists is why your chromosomes are all f**ked up. Educate yourself, bozo," BNXN posted.

Fat Joe has previously made the claim that he forced BNXN to adopt a new stage name after calling him out on TV. His latest claim while interviewing Buju Banton appears to have forced a reaction from the Nigerian singer.

In 2022, the Nigerian singer born Daniel Benson switched his name from Buju to BNXN following what he describe as copyright issues due to the clash of stage name with the Jamaican Buju Banton. The switch had nothing to do with Fat Joe's tirade while guest-hosting The Wendy Williams Show, where he calls out the "other Buju."

During Buju Banton's appearance on the Joe and Jade podcast, Fat Joe also claimed that Nigerian Pop music popularly called Afrobeats emanated from Jamaica. This has also generated criticisms from Nigerians who called out the erroneous claim on the origin of Afrobeats.

The Jamaican star's endorsement of Fat Joe's claim that Afrobeats orginated from Jamaica sees the Reggae music icon land in yet another controvery surrounding Nigerian pop music.

In 2024, Banton was the subject of heavy critcism after he claimed "Afrobeats talks about nothing" juxtaposing the genre with Afrobeat, which was a blend of Highlife, Folk, and Jazz Fela Kuti created to pass conscious messages that documented the sociopolitical landscape of that era.

Banton's statement made during his appearance on the Drinking Champs podcast was part of his tirade towards Afrobeats artists who he claimed have not show Dancehall enough respect despite biting off the genre.
