Grimaldo spent the last three seasons at Leverkusen, playing a pivotal role in their 2024 Bundesliga title, German Cup, and German Supercup triumphs. He made 145 appearances for the “Werkself,” scoring 30 goals and providing 45 assists, having joined them on a free transfer from Benfica.

Grimaldo is part of Spain's national squad for the 2026 World Cup, but he has remained an unused substitute in all three of “La Furia Roja's” matches so far, with Marc Cucurella currently holding the starting spot in his position.

The versatile player, who turns 31 in September, returns to his homeland, but this will mark his debut in La Liga, as his previous appearances in Spain were solely for Barcelona's B team. The Valencia native is the “Rojiblancos’” first new acquisition this summer.
