Gyan is on loan at Dubai-based Arabian Gulf League side Al Ahli from Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

The 31-year-old is among more than 40 players who have received warning letters for their hairstyles.

As a Muslim country, the United Arab Emirates frown on some hairstyle as some Islamic teachings ban 'Qaza' hairstyles, where only part of the head is shaved.

Referees often check to see if players have appropriate hairstyles during football games.

The warning letters sent to players are part of a move to prevent the footballers from influencing children.

The players would be fine or even suspended if they don’t comply.

The same rule applies in some surrounding Muslims countries like Saudi Arabia where their national team goalkeeper, Waleed Abdullah was forced to shave his hair during a game.

Abdullah who is a goalkeeper for Saudi Arabia’s national team was ordered to shave off his hair because it was an ‘anti-Islamic’ haircut.

In a video found on Youtube, the goalkeeper can be seen with surrounded by Saudi officials who insisted that his hair must be shaved before the game.
