Pupil, motorcyclist knocked down, killed by traffic official

A Senior Prefect of Day Star Secondary School, Ogidi, Anambra, Emeka Ogbu, and a motorcyclist have been killed in a road crash that involved a traffic official.

The accident, which occurred at Ogidi town on Thursday, comes just a few days after last about 70 persons died in the tragic petrol tanker disaster at Asaba Motor Park, Upper Iweka, Onitsha.

Student Pulse gathered that Ogbu was knocked down by a motorcycle which was hit by a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) driven by an unnamed official of the Anambra State Traffic Management Agency (ATMA).

The student and the motorcyclist were rushed to a nearby private hospital, New Mayor’s Hospital, Iyi-Enu, Ogidi, but they both died.

The Ogidi Divisional Police Officer, DPO, Hassan Musa, said investigation was on-going.

“That boy was a senior prefect of a secondary school at Ogidi and we commiserate with the family,” the DPO stated

Also reacting to the tragic incidence, the state Commissioner for Transport, Chuma Mbodu, said the ministry is conducting its investigations.
