Concerned citizen turns amateur traffic controller!

A concern citizen of West Auckland has gone viral due to his selfless act of service.

During a power cut that caused the traffic lights to go out, along with power in a gym and surrounding buildings, the man took it upon himself to direct traffic at a busy intersection.

Sian Poelau, a personal trainer at the Glen Eden gym Volition, said he saw the man directing traffic for about 10 minutes before leaving, then later returning for a further 10 minutes.

He added that motorists gave him a thumbs up and waved while passing the man.

A Fire Service spokesman commended the man saying he showed good initiative.

"I applaud the person that did it, common sense prevails."
