Several media reports are suggesting that President Muhammadu Buhari may approve the appointment of Engineer Aliyu Aziz Abubakar, as the new director general and chief executive officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

According to a report by Nigeria CommunicationsWeek, the Presidency is yet to make any official announcements by sources close to the matter are saying that Abubakar is the most likely replacement for Barr. Chris Onyemenam, due to his vast experience which the government hopes will help harmonise various databases in different government organisations.

If he is appointed, Abubakar will be tasked with the responsibility of successfully capturing all eleigible Nigerians and legal residents into a general database for national planning and efficiency.

Abubakar has over thirty years’ experience in engineering and information technology, spanning both private and public sectors.

He holds a B.Eng in Civil Engineering and M.Sc in Structural Engineering with a specialty in Computer Aided Design from the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria.
