2021 Champion Max Verstappen unveils new helmet for new Formula 1 season
Since 2014, there has been an F1 rule that the reigning champion is permitted to race with the Number 1 on his car - or stick with his previous number.
In celebration of his 2021 season triumph, Red Bull Driver and current Formula 1 Champion Max Verstappen has unveiled a new look gold and white designed helmet.
The 22-year-old Dutchman revealed the new design on Thursday, consisting of a lot of gold on his usual white.
He also has the Number 1 inscribed on the back as he swapped his old Number 33 to celebrate his 2021 title.
Speaking at the unveiling he said, "I also asked for a little star on the back, for my championship win.
With all the small upgrades and the gold, I think my 2022 helmet looks cool! "
Verstappen had led the championship for most of the 2021 season gaining the most wins and pole positions as well, although his title victory was immediately followed by controversy after a dramatic final win over Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in December.
The 2022 Formula 1 season is set to kick off with test races in February, before Bahrain hosts the first official race on March 20.
