2021 AfroBasket: D'Tigers of Nigeria lose top spot in Group C after loss to Cote d'Ivoire

Nigerian men's basketball team on Sunday, August 29, 2021 fell 68-77 to Cote d'Ivoire to finish second and fail to secure the automatic quarter-final ticket at the ongoing 2021 AfroBasket in Rwanda.

The D'Tigers had an awful day in the office, losing three quarters to their fellow West Africans. 

They lost the first quarter 11-20, won the second 23-19, and then failed to sustain the momentum by losing the last two quarters 13-15 and 21-23.

Benjamin Emelogu was again the team's top performer, with 13 points, five rebounds and two steals, while Ikenna Ndugba also had six assists and two steals.

Nigeria will have another chance to grab qualification to the quarterfinals with a qualifying fixture on Tuesday, August 31.

The Group C runners-up will face Group D’s third-placed team, which is Uganda.
