Truck driver identified as 29-year-old Sayfullo Saipov

According to CNN, the attacker, who came to the United States from Uzbekistan in 2010, left a note saying he did it for ISIS.

New York Times also reports that Saipov was shot by a police officer while he was waiving what seemed to be a paintball gun.

The suspect, who is still in critical condition, was recently granted permanent legal residence and investigators say he had been on the radar of security officials.

According to New York Times, a phone which was recovered in Saipov’s house will be searched for more clues that will help unravel more details of the attack.

Five of the people who died, tourists from Argentina who were in New York for a high school reunion celebration.

Reports say the City's mayor Bill de Blasio has also denounced the attack,describing it as an act of terror.
