The ban came in response to intelligence pointing to a potential fresh terrorist attack.

However, it said that no details were disclosed.

The governor cited the state of emergency which was imposed for 90 days following an attempted coup in July and renewed by the parliament recent.

A group of soldiers attempted to take over the government in mid-July, but were beaten back after a night of fighting.

The government has accused supporters of the cleric Fethullah Gulen, who lives in self-imposed exile in the U.S., of organising the coup.

Gulen denies any involvement, but Turkey is seeking his extradition.
