Death toll from hotel suicide attack rises to 25

Authorities in the country, in announcing the casualty figure, stated that two lawmakers and workers from the prime minister's office were among the victims of the attack.

25 people have now been confirmed dead in Somalia after a February 20 suicide attack on a hotel in Mogadishu.

The police had previously said that at least 10 people had died in the attack on Central Hotel, which is near the Presidential Palace, but warned that the death toll was likely to increase.

“The confirmed death toll is 25 civilians and officials, including two lawmakers and deputy Mogadishu mayor. Among the dead are also officials and workers from the prime minister's office,” the nation’s government said on Saturday, Feb. 21.

Somalia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Mohamed Omar Arte and 39 other people were also injured in the attack, which has been claimed by terrorist group, al-Shabab.
