Taxi company returns to Spain with UberEats

Uber's taxi service was banned last year in Spain but the company has introduced a new food delivery service in the country.

A year after being banned from Spain, app-based transportation network and taxi company, Uber has returned to the European country, only as a food delivery service.

The service called UberEats has launched in Barcelona and brings customers meals from local restaurants within around 10 minutes.

Uber is working with Barcelona food guide website Plateselector to create a meal rotation, and everyday its drivers' cars are stocked with packaged food for delivery

UberEats is similar service in California. It is called ‘UberFresh’ and it is available in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles.

Drivers’ cars are stocked up with prepared meals, which are sold for about €10 plus a €2.50 delivery fee ($14).

Customers get to go to an Uber App and choose the Eats icon.

Uber's car-hailing service was banned last year, after a judge ordered the service to shut down and ordered telecom companies to block online connections to Uber.com, including connections through Uber’s app.

After the blocking, Uber released updated versions of the app that included workarounds that routed users through a different web address—so, technically, not Uber.com.

That workaround remains in place, both on Android phones and iPhones.
