During their protest at the APC secretariat in Abuja, the protesters stated that if Oshiomhole is not removed from his chairmanship role, he will ruin the party's fortune as the APC has lost more states under him.

Channels TV reports that the protesters carried various placards with inscriptions calling for the former Edo governor's sack as APC national chairman.

One of the protesters identified as Agricola Ejembi, on behalf of the group, appealed to President Muhuammadu Buhari to intervene in the affairs of the party in order to arrest what they claim to be the dwindling fortunes of the party under Oshiomhole.

Prior to this development, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on Friday, February 14, 2020, declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Duoye Diri, as the winner of the November 16, 2019, governorship election in Bayelsa.

Diri's emergence as the legitimate winner of the election, came after the Supreme Court sacked David Lyon who contested for the governorship election as a candidate of the APC.

Justice Ejembi Ekwo, who read the lead judgment on Thursday, February 13, made the order after disqualifying the APC’s deputy governorship candidate, Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo, as a candidate in the election for submitting forged certificates to INEC.

The court ruled that Degi-Eremienyo’s disqualification had infected the joint ticket with which he and the governorship candidate, Lyon, ran for and won.
