Jegede announced his new choice on Monday, August 17, 2020, two weeks after Olumide Ogunje was listed as his running mate in a provisional list published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Jegede said on Monday Ikengboju was chosen after 'extensive consultations' with leaders of the PDP.
"I am pleased, to announce that Hon. Gboluga Ikengboju will be working with me in seeking your mandate in the October 10, 2020 governorship election," he said on his Twitter account.
Ikengboju is the current representative of Irele/Okitipupa Federal Constituency, Ondo in the Federal House of Representatives.
The October 10 election, contested by a total of 17 candidates, is expected to be keenly contested between Jegede and incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Jegede lost the same election to Akeredolu four years ago, but is confident the result will be different this year.
