Why Ex-President tore his PDP membership card

Obasanjo tore the card on Monday, February 16, during a meeting with PDP leaders at his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has left many in shock after he tore his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) membership card into shreds.

Obasanjo tore the card on Monday, February 16, during a meeting with PDP leaders at his home in Abeokuta, Ogun State, Punch reports.

The party members were said to have paid the former President a visit to urge him to stop criticizing President Goodluck Jonathan.

However, the meeting took a dramatic turn when they informed Obasanjo that the leaders of the party were planning to expel him due to his recent utterances.

The former President then reportedly asked for his membership card to be brought and ordered one of his visitors to rip it into shreds.

Obasanjo thus effectively ended his membership of the ruling party and reportedly said that he would henceforth stay away from partisan politics.

The former President has been extremely critical of Jonathan in recent times and on Saturday accused him of planning to impede the conduct of the upcoming general elections.
