The former Governor of Lagos state, Babatunde Raji Fashola has re-iterated his call for state police, saying that Nigeria is under-policed.

He said this, during his ministerial screening on the floor of Senate.
He gave the number of police officers in Nigeria at a little bit over 500,000 men.

Fashola said "Government exists to protect citizens and their assets therefore criminals are my competitors."
He also said "we are under policed based on statistics and my recommendation is decentralization."
"As governor I felt responsible for every citizen that was robbed,” Fashola said.
