PDP says President wants to be the sole candidate in 2019

Ologbodiyan said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was planning to cause crisis in its party in order to pave way for Buhari’s reelection.

The party's spokesman of the party, Kola Ologbondiyan, recently made the allegation at a press conference in Abuja.

Ologbodiyan said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) was planning to cause crisis in its party in order to pave way for Buhari’s reelection.

In his words: “President Buhari wants to be the sole candidate in 2019; that’s why they (APC) want to cause crisis in our party.

“We are going to stand as a party and we are going to fiercely contest elections in 2019. Our doors are open to Nigerians and anyone who is interested in contesting an election in 2019 can come in.”

Continuing, Ologbodiyan said: “Any person who for any selfish reason resort to the ignoble part of attempting to create disaffection and disunity in our party will be made to face the consequences of his or her actions as provided for in the constitution of our great party and extant laws of the land,” he said.

“It is strange, unacceptable and outside every known law and regulation that a group will come together and claim to have formed a splinter group of our great party and even attempt to use our colour, name and logo unauthorised.

“The PDP remains a highly responsible and law-abiding party, with level playing ground for all to aspire for any position but on no account should we as members submit ourselves to the manipulations of the ruling party to be used as agents of destabilization.

“It is therefore imperative to inform all our members that our party is one indivisible and united PDP and that all organs of the party, the national executive committee (NEC), the board of trustees (BOT) as well as our state organs are all intact, thus foreclosing any basis for form of factionalization whatsoever.”

Ologbondiyan further said the PDP would not hesitate to deal with any of its members caught engaging in activities capable of causing disaffection within its fold.
