No governor nominated ministers for President – El-Rufai

El-Rufai said further that Buhari had earlier been advised not to allow governors nominate ministers for him.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai has denied reports that President Muhammadu Buhari’s ministerial candidates were nominated by their state governors.

The governor made the clarification on Saturday, October 17, 2015, while responding to questions during the state's monthly Town Hall meeting.

“No governor nominated any ministerial appointee for the president,” El-Rufai said.

“Before we were elected as governors, we advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to allow any governor to nominate minister for him because if he allows that they will nominate somebody of their choice and not that of the president's choice. The president heeded that advice,” he added.

Buhari has so far nominated 36 persons to serve as his ministers, 18 of whom have been screened and confirmed by the Senate.
