‘I’m not leaving PDP for APC,’ Cross River Governor says

Ayade made the denial via a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Ita on Thursday, March 3, 2016.

Cross River State governor, Ben Ayade.

Ayade made the denial via a statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Christian Ita on Thursday, March 3, 2016.

It reads:

“In a recent briefing with newsmen, the governor stated in very clear terms that he is a member of the PDP. The fact that the governor has a very good relationship with President Buhari does not, in any way, suggest he wants to join the APC.”

“For the avoidance of doubt, Governor Ayade has no hand in the declaration of Venatius Ikem wanted for alleged theft and attempted murder by the police.”

“Obla’s claim is, therefore, an attempt to blackmail the governor. Rather than try to distract the public by maligning the governor, I urge Obla, who claims to be a lawyer, to advise his client to honour the invitation of the police and clear his name if he is innocent.”

“I will also advise Obla that he should devote his energy towards the cleansing of his party in the state which has now become a haven for outlaws.”

The rumour of Ayade’s supposed defection was reportedly spread by one Okoi Obono-Obla.
