UN warns FG against further postponement

UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon urged the government and all stakeholders to respect the new calendar for the elections.

The United Nations has warned the Nigerian government against any further plans to postpone the upcoming general elections.

UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-moon urged the government and all stakeholders to respect the new calendar for the elections.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the progress made in preparing for the elections.

Ban urged all relevant organizations “to ensure all voters can exercise their constitutional right to participate in the elections freely and without intimidation.”

He also advised all candidates “to refrain from inflammatory statements and to immediately condemn any statements from their supporters that amount to an incitement to violence or subversion of the electoral process.”

The elections were originally slated to hold on February 14 and 28 but were postponed by INEC till March 28 and April 11.
