Another storey building has collapsed at 20 Freeman Street, Lagos Island on Saturday, July 11, 2020, killing a child.

Two more dead bodies have also been recovered from the rubble of the collapsed building as search for victims continues.

According to the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Lagos State on New Media, Jubril Gawat, nine victims have been rescued.

The three storey building was said to have collapsed on its sleeping occupants around 3.00 am.

Following the collapse, the first victim to be rescued from the rubble by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) was said to have been recovered dead. 

Confirming the incident, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Director-General of the agency said the corpse had been taken to the mortuary, adding that on-the-spot treatment had been administered on the rescued victims.

He said, â€œThe agency responded to emergency calls on the collapsed building at Freeman Street in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.

“Upon arrival at the incident scene at 4:00 am, a three-storey building was discovered to have totally collapsed on people asleep inside.
