IG of Police urges hospitals to treat gunshot victims before reporting

Many hospitals in the country have formed the habit of denying treatment to such persons until a police report has been presented.

The Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase has urged hospitals in the country to treat gunshot victims before reporting to the police.

Arase’s position was contained in a statement released on Friday, August 21, 2015 by police spokesman, Emmanuel Chukwu.

The statement reads:

“This has become imperative following neglect and consequent untimely death of victims in this regard out of fear of being implicated without police involvement.”

““Doctors on duty are equally duty bound to treat victims of gunshot wounds and further inform Police of relevant facts. The safety of Nigerians is a collaborative effort of all and sundry.”

Chukwu also urged citizens to continue to report suspicious activities to the police.
