The shootout has been confirmed by army spokesman, Colonel K.O Ogunsanya.
Ogunsanya told Daily Trust that the incident is being investigated in order to know “what transpired and who and who among their men were involved,” adding that “a statement would be issued as soon as they get to the root of the matter.”
The shootout reportedly lasted from around 6am to 10am.
Meanwhile, a joint committee of the Nigerian Army and Nigeria Police Force has been set up to investigate the clash.
“The attention of this Headquarters has been drawn to an unfortunate incident that happened between some unguided soldiers and policemen in Damaturu this morning,” Ogunsanya said via a statement.

“A joint committee between the Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Police has been set up to investigate the incident. This Headquarters wishes to assure the members of the public that the situation has been brought under control and normalcy has been restored,” he added.
