''Two out of the five suspects who are currently on remand at the Sokoto central prison had been converted to witnesses,'' he told newsmen in Sokoto.

Murder: Police assures late Inspector 's family of justice.

Sokoto State Police Command and the State Justice Ministry have assured the family of a police inspector allegedly killed in Sokoto, that the suspects would be prosecuted.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the late Insp. Nura Hashimu, son of a deceased Commissioner of Police, Mr Hashimu Yauri, was said to have died after a fight between him and five members of staff of a four-star hotel in Sokoto on Aug.1,2015.

A spokesman for the family, Alhaji Garba Yauri, on Monday expressed apprehension that justice may be truncated in the case.

'' We are satisfied with the efforts of the police who had since charged five suspects to the Magistrate court under section 221 of the penal code which charges them with culpable homicide, punishable with death.

''However, the charge had been changed to section 224 of the same penal code by the Ministry of Justice, which also charge them with culpable homicide, but there is an option of a jail term of between 1 to 20 years.

Yauri appealed Gov. Aminu Tambuwal, who is a lawyer by profession, to intervene and ensure that justice is done in the case.

Reacting to the concern of the family, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Salisu Fagge, assured that the case would be duly prosecuted.

"The case file was sent to the Ministry of Justice for legal advice and prosecution.

''We are mutually working together with the ministry to ensure diligent prosecution of the case and we will not compromise,'' he said.

Also commenting on the matter, the Permanent Secretary in the State Justice Ministry, Mrs A'ishatu Dantsoho promised to prosecute the case diligently.

'' The charge was changed from section 221 to 224 of the penal code based on the available credible evidences to logically prosecute the case.

'' The Director of Public Prosecution had since assigned a senior lawyer to handle the case and it will soon be transferred from the Magistrate Court to a High Court.

'' The Ministry will not rest on its oars until when the case is diligently prosecuted,'' she said
