Observers say LG election peaceful

Sokoto state Local Government elections held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 and the electoral process has been described as free and fair.

The Forum of States Independent Electoral Commissions (FOSIECOM) and a coalition of local and international election observers have said that the Saturday, March 12, 2016 local council polls elections in Sokoto was free, credible and transparent due to the use of card readers.

Reports say the All Progressive Congress (APC) won in all the Local Government Councils in the state.

FOSIECOM National Chairman, Justice Afolabi Adeyinka who is also the chairman of Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, made the disclosure at a news briefing in Sokoto on Sunday March 13, 2016.

Adeyinka who is also a former Chief Justice of Lagos State said “I have to commend the courage of the Sokoto State Independent Electoral Commission in sticking with its plan to conduct the election using card reader machine and the permanent voters’ card.”

“We saw the preparations and the eventual conduct of the election and we agreed to the fact that it’s a reflection of the general wish of Sokoto people.”
