Preliminary report on the cause of the accident revealed that the fire happened as a result of the manual transfer of petroleum products by operators of the tank farm.

Officials of the Lagos State Fire Service, National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA) responded to the fire and brought it back under control.

LASEMA's General Manager, Adesina Tiamiyu, said an investigation will be conducted to address the accident.

He also used the opportunity to emphasise the need for owners and managers of oil and gas companies to always ensure that proper emergency response plan was put in place.
