A Chief Magistrates' Court in Jos, on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old driver, Salisu Isah, to one year imprisonment for assaulting two Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) officers.

Isah was charged for criminal assault and obstruction, an offence contrary to sections 217 and 148 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Sgt. Yakubu Audu, had told the court that the two road marshals, Afolayan Issac and Onoja Paul, reported the matter to the police.

"The officers, who were holding routine mobile court‎ along British America Junction, asked Isah to produce his particulars, but he failed to produce the particulars.

"He was asked to convey the officers to the FRSC office for trial, however when Isah got to Rikkos junction he called some hoodlums who attacked the officers,’’ Audu said.

He told the court that the two FRSC officers sustained injuries and had to be admitted in hospital.

The prosecutor ‎prayed the court to grant summary trial after the convict pleaded guilty to the charge.

In her Judgement, ‎the Magistrate, Mrs Hudung Shima, sentenced Isah to one year imprisonment with an option of N10,000 fine.

She charged the convict to be of good behaviour and conduct himself in an orderly manner in future.
