Lawmaker provides free medical service to 7,000 people

He said all these were to reduce over dependence on government by creating means for the people to own their own businesses and become employers of labour.

Abubakar, who represents Deba Federal Constituency, disclosed this to journalists while fielding questions on his constituency project on Sunday in Gombe.

The lawmaker said the gesture was part of the dividends of democracy he promised his constituents.

Abubakar, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Federal Road Safety (FRSC), said: ``We invited an NGO to provide free medical treatment to about five to seven thousand patients.

``We also brought together lots of our people who are medical doctors to provide the services and it is our intention to repeat it every six months.”

The legislator assured the people that he would continue with the training of traditional birth attendants in the constituency to provide good service, especially while assisting pregnant women.

Abubakar said that he has a six-point agenda for the people in his constituency, including Agriculture, Education, Empowerment, Employment opportunities and skill acquisition training, in collaboration with the NGO.

``People earlier use to depend on government for employment opportunities immediately after the service year.

``Now there are more graduates with lesser job opportunities and the government too is becoming more and more poorer that it can’t afford to pay them.

``That is why we look inward to create job opportunities to our people to reduce over dependence on government,” he said.

He said that his constituency office had established computer e-learning centre in Deba to assist the youths become educated on Information Communication Technology.

He said the office in collaboration with the Federal Collage of Horticulture, training had been provided for youths on fish and poultry farming, among other programmes.
