8 feared dead in battle between militants and soldiers

Eight people have been reported dead in Delta State after a group of soldiers were ambushed by militants in the Warri South Local Government Area of the state.

 

The incident was said to have occurred between 7pm and 8pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016, according to Punch.

The militants were said to have attacked the soldiers’ houseboat after some of the troops had gone on routine patrol.

According to an officer, who confirmed the attack, all the occupants of the houseboat were killed.

Details of the incident are still sketchy but it’s believed to be the work of new militant group, Niger Delta Avengers which recently threatened to kill soldiers in the area.
