Kano Governor promises judicious use of IGR

The governor said that the government would finance part of the 2016 recurrent expenditure and 2017 with internally revenue.

Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State said he would ensure that internally generated revenue was used for the development of the state.

He made the promise while presenting letters of appointment to staff engaged by Technical Advisers on Improvement of IGR and Consultants conducting Biometric Data Capture in Kano on Sunday.

"Whatever we collect as taxes will be used judiciously for the development of the state.

“The state needs to stand on its feet instead of depending on something not reliable,” he said.

He explained that the state decided to look inward for improved revenue in reaction to the economic situation in the country.

“We will very soon lay a solid foundation for some projects to be tagged Tax Aid Projects for people to see how the revenue collected is used,’’ Ganduje said.

According to him, the state government would soon establish a special department in the Revenue Board that would be charged with the responsibility of revenues in ministries, departments and agencies.

He said the measure became necessary in order to ensure accountability and transparency in the collection of revenue in the state

The governor called on members of the public to cooperate with the revenue collectors to achieve the desired objective.
