On Monday, April 25, 2016, more than 100 herdsmen reportedly attacked the Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the state l

“I was coming out from the house when I heard the community bell ringing. I was going with a friend to know what the bell was all about, only to see about 40 Fulani herdsmen armed with sophisticated guns and machetes,” a victim, Kingsley Ezugwu, told Vanguard.

“They pursued us, killed my friend and shot at me several times but missed. They caught up with me and used machetes on me until I lost consciousness,” he added.

The invaders are also said to have destroyed houses and property and burnt a church during the attack.

The herdsmen are believed to have launched the invasion because the villagers had been resisting the use of their farmlands as grazing fields.

The incident occurred on the same day that Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase said that the force would not deploy more policemen to Agatu in Benue State to stop attacks by the herdsmen.

He also described the Agatu situation, which has left hundreds of people dead, as a “seasonal outburst”.

“There's no budget for deployment of extra Police to Agatu Crisis, we have to take care of officers there to avoid low morale. The Agatu Crisis is a seasonal outburst, what we should do is to create buffer zones by building policing structures there,” he said.

Killer Fulani herdsmen have become a menace in many states and have left a trail of corpses in their wake.

Instead of sanctioning them however, the government is making plans to give them special treatment with a grazing reserve bill.

The attitude of the government towards the atrocities of the Fulani herdsmen is nothing short of shocking.

It appears that President Muhammadu Buhari doesn’t realize that his being Fulani is the more reason why he should tackle this problem head-on.

The killer herdsmen are extending their madness out of the middle belt because they’ve been made to believe that they are unstoppable.

Dear President Buhari, silence is not the best answer in this case, you must act to stop these attacks now or risk having people take laws into their own hands.

Dear President Buhari, you can deal with vandals like you dealt with Boko Haram, but please make sure that you deal with these killer Fulani herdsmen too.
