The Gombe State indigene lost his ticket for re-election into the Senate in 2011 after a keenly contested process in his senatorial district.

In 2016, the Waziris lost their 39-year old daughter, Jackie Ifidon-Ola Waziri, to an undisclosed ailment at an Abuja Hospital.

The news of Senator Waziri's death has left the former boss of EFCC and members of the Waziri family in grief
