Cabinet Reshuffle: Tinubu sacks 5 ministers, appoints 7 more

In his bid to rejig his cabinet, President Bola Tinubu sacked five of his ministers on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.

The President also re-assigned 10 ministers to new ministerial portfolios and appointed seven more to join his cabinet.

During the Federal Executive Council meeting, Tinubu sacked Uju-Ken Ohanenye, the Minister of Women's Affairs, Lola Ade-John, the Minister of Tourism; Tahir Mamman, the Minister of Education; Abdullahi Gwarzo, the Minister of State, Housing, and Urban Development; and Jamila Ibrahim, the Minister of Youth Development.

The President also nominated Bianca Odumegu-Ojukwu as the Minister of State Foreign Affairs, Maigari Dingyadi as the Minister of Labour and Employment, Jumoke Oduwole as the Minister of Industry, Idi Maiha as Minister for the newly created Livestock Development Ministry, Yusuf Ata as the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, and Suwaiba Ahmad as the Minister of State Education.

The president's nomination of Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction officially ended the tenure of Betta Edu who was suspended in January over alleged financial scandal in her ministry.

Earlier, Tinubu scrapped the Ministry of Niger Delta Development and replaced it with the Ministry of Regional Development to oversee the activities of regional development commissions.

The President also scrapped the Ministry of Sports Development and approved the merger of the Federal Ministry of Tourism and the Federal Ministry of Arts and Culture.

This will henceforth be known as the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy.
