'Review your wife's comments,' Reps tell President

The lawmakers urged Nigerian women to rally round the First Lady in her campaign to save Nigeria.

The lawmakers at the weekend unanimously advised President Muhammadu Buhari to heed his wife's counsel and use it to better his administration.

In a BBC interview last week, Mrs Buhari had said that a "few people" have hijacked the President's government, dictating who gets the top jobs.

She said her husband does not know over half of those occupying the 'big' positions in his government, adding that those who worked relentlessly to get him elected have been neglected.

Mrs Buhari also threatened not to support the President's re-election in 2019 if he does not shake up his government.

In his reaction to the First Lady's interview, Chairman of the House Committee on Legislative Budget, Timothy Golu, said Mrs Buhari voiced out what the sycophants around the President would not tell him.

He said: "She’s drawing her husband's attention to issues that sycophants around him would not tell him. But she has come out with the truth and is saying it because she loves the husband.

"She is closer to the man (Buhari) more than any other person and since she has voiced this out, the husband should take it and review some of his actions and decisions.

"It will not be good for the President to ignore the complaints from the wife. She has been with him and is disturbed by certain things happening around the husband, so it’s natural for her to talk."

Similarly, Ehiozuwa Johnson Agbonayinma, from the Egor/Ikpoba Okha Federal constituency, said Mrs Buhari's revelations confirmed what most of them have continuously maintained that the President has been hijacked by a cabal.

He said Nigerian women should give the First Lady massive support "in her campaign to save Nigeria from the hands of a few selfish individuals."

He added that for Mrs Buhari to publicly speak out against her husband means she could no longer bottle up her frustration.
