President orders reinstatement of Governor Obiano's security aides

Buhari directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila, to ensure the return of the governor’s security personnel.

The President gave the directive in Awka, Anambra state capital, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017.

Buhari was in the state for the Grand Finale of the All Progressives Congress governorship rally.

Obiano, who welcomed Buhari to the state, had complained about the withdrawal of his security aides by the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris.

The aides were withdrawn on Tuesday, and according to the IGP, the action was because of the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

The police boss said he was trying to prevent a re-occurrence of a past event where a governor's security aides were caught escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on election day.

Buhari, however, directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila, to ensure the return of the governor’s security personnel.

The Senate had also condemned the withdrawal of the governor’s security details and called for their return.

Obiano is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
