Nigerians 'don't need to know' about President's health - Igbokwe

The APC publicity secretary said the president has followed due process and deserves privacy.

President Muhammadu Buhari

He said this on Sunrise Daily, a programme on Channels TV, on Wednesday, August 16, 2017, while he was fielding questions about the state of health of the president.

When he was asked if it was ideal that the president has been out of the country for over a hundred days, Igbokwe said, "What did the law say? The president was going out for medical treatment and he transmitted power, wrote to the National Assembly. That's what the law says, and he moved on .

"He has not done anything wrong. He has transmitted power to the Acting President.

"We have presidents that have died in office in America. One was incapacitated, he was on a wheelchair and he served for 12 years. It's a private thing.

"You don't need to know. Doctors don't disclose what their patients are suffering from.

"Online, in the social media they'll post 'The president has died'. Some even posted his obituary online.

"You can say so many things but once a picture is out, it can speak volumes.

"Last week, the live picture of the president came out, that settles all this talk about incapacitation. Why can't people go and find something to do.

"Has his absence disturbed governance? We have a professor as Acting President.

"The president is sick and he has told Nigerians to allow him to get back his health. The needful has been done."

President Buhari left the country on May 7 to resume treatment for an undisclosed illness in London, leaving Acting President Yemi Osinbajo in charge of the country's affairs.

The president has said he is completely healthy and is only waiting for a clean bill of health from his doctors before he returns to the country, but there has been no confirmed date for his return.
