The minister of state for petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, after the meeting, told newsmen that the responsibility for securing oil pipelines will be handed over to the indigenesof the host communities where the facilities are located.

The militants also slammed Kachikwu over the comments, saying it is an insult.

They also warned oil companies and the Nigerian military to stay alert, because something big is about to happen.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had earlier accused Ibe Kachikwu of giving $10m bribe to representatives of the Niger Delta Avengers.
