'Only 3 people were killed in Agatu,' Police IG maintains

Arase further said that though 18 people had been arrested in connection with the killings with investigations still ongoing, he's unable to reveal all he was doing on the case.

Inspector General of Police (IG), Solomon Arase

Faulting the claims at the investigative hearing organised by the House of Representatives committee on the killings in Benue, Arase maintained that only three persons were killed saying he didn't see 500 graves when he visited the state to see situation of things for himself.

The police boss used the opportunity to note that while he's doing all his best to ensure all parties involved are brought to justice, Arase said that paucity of funds, shortage of personnel, logistics and technology, were impeding police’s efforts in the crisis.

In his words, “We have apprehended some persons, may be investigation is rather slow. You must be able to assemble sufficient evidence to prosecute them. I don’t just want to prosecute people without securing conviction."

Continuing, he said, 'It is not as if we are not doing anything.'

Arase used the opportunity to reveal that some of his men were also killed during the crisis leaving their families fatherless and widows.
