The ruling party announced his death in a statement on the night of Thursday, March 9, 2023.
He was reported to have been admitted to an undisclosed health facility in Abuja and was discharged on Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
The party chieftain reportedly went back to the hospital yesterday for a routine check-up but he relapsed and was rushed into the intensive care unit where he was confirmed dead.
Reacting to his death via its official Twitter handle, the ruling party described his demise as a monumental loss.
“RIP SIR F.N. NWOSU. Words are not enough to describe the monumental loss brought by the passing of the party’s National Welfare Secretary, Sir Friday Nwosu, on the APC family. May his soul rest in peace,” the party tweeted.
Before defecting to the APC, Nwosu in 2015 contested the Abia State governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He lost the ticket to Ikpeazu Okezie, who is now the governor of the state.
Ahead of the 2019 general election, he was one of the governorship aspirants in Abia state that vied for the party’s ticket on the platform of the APC.
In February 2023, he held a press conference where he appealed to former Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development, Uche Ogah to reconcile with Abia governorship candidate, Ikechi Emenike, to wrestle the state from the Peoples Democratic Party.
