Lagos Governor says obsolete laws will be reviewed periodically

The governor said that the move was in line with his administration’s commitment to deepening democracy and rule of law as well as making the laws relevant and effective.

Akinwunmi Ambode, Governor, Lagos state

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State on Wednesday said his administration would carry out periodic review of obsolete laws in the State to bring them in tune with current realities.

The Governor, according to a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Habib Aruna, said this in Lagos while inaugurating a new board of the Lagos State Law Reform Commission.

He said such periodic review was important in achieving the goal of creating an enabling environment for investors, entrepreneurs and making Lagos globally competitive.

Ambode said that modern and civilized societies thrive on the quality of laws which regulate and guide the actions of government, organisations, individuals and institutions.

He charged members of the Commission to hit the ground running by expediting action on the creation of an electronic portal, aimed at providing access to laws of the State online.

“This is a major project which the new Board has a responsibility to deliver in record time. It is very vital to the success of our drive to attract investors to our State,” Ambode said.

The Chairman of the newly inaugurated board, Prof. Gbolahan Ellias (SAN), in his response, thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in the members.

He said that they would do all within the confines of the law to executive the mandate conscientiously.

Other members of the commission are Dr Omogbai Omo-Eboh,Mr Demola Sadiq and Mrs. Tola Akinsanya, while Mrs. Ade Adeyemo is the Executive Secretary.
