First Lady reiterates commitment to improve lives of women, youths

Mrs Buhari said this on Thursday during the closing and graduation ceremony of 1,000 beneficiaries of her skills acquisition programme in Bauchi.

The wife of the president, who made a symbolic presentation of certificates to the beneficiaries, said the beneficiaries were drawn from various local government areas of the state.

The programme, which was sponsored by her NGO, the Future Assured Initiative; trained the beneficiaries in different areas such as bakery and pastries, food processing, tie and dying, beatification, body Perfumes, car freshener and insecticide.

She called on the beneficiaries to use the acquired skills to set up their businesses and become employers of labour.

Mrs Buhari expressed confidence that the empowerment programme would translate into a better and productive ventures.

She pledged to continue support of women and youths in Nigeria, saying that one of the ways to ensure a healthy society was to empower women and youths.

Mrs Buhari therefore prayed that the empowerment programme would impact immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria’s economy.

She also promised to continue championing the course of women and youths in the areas of health and education, especially the less privileged in the society.

Some of the beneficiaries, who spoke to newsmen at the event, expressed their gratitude to Mrs Buhari for providing them with necessary tools to cater for the economic and financial needs in their life.

One of the beneficiaries, Miss Rabi Lame, said the programme had directly benefited their lives.

“ Our future and indeed the life of those that benefited with us directly or indirectly is assured, it is obviously a lifetime cherishable opportunity which cannot be forgotten by anyone of us.

“I hope that many will join your kindness and gesture for a better future,” she said.

Miss Laurentia Lamogo, also a beneficiary, expressed gratitude to Mrs Buhari for providing free skills acquisition programme to citizens of the state.

During the event, the wife of the president interacted with the victims and family members individuals who lost their lives during the 2015 general elections.

Earlier, She visited the Palace of Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwan Suleiman Adamu II, where she condoled the emir over the death of emir of Katagum.

The wife of the president also interacted with the group of people living with disabilities in the state, led by an NYSC member, Mr Hamza Waziri, and encouraged them to be hardworking.

She advised them not to see their condition as reason to discourage them from acquiring skills for self-reliance.
