Volvo is set to send 100 self-driving cars for safety testing in China. These cars will be tested on public roads in a variety of conditions.

According to the CEO of the Swedish auto company, Håkan Samuelsson, this is the first step towards manufacturing safe cars.

During the announcement in Beijing, he called on the government to provide the relevant help because of the numerous benefits of self driving cars.

"There are multiple benefits to [autonomous driving] cars. That is why governments need to put in place the legislation to allow AD cars onto the streets as soon as possible. The car industry cannot do it all by itself. We need governmental help," he said.
