Unfortunately, these pleas seem to fallen on deaf ears, as pedestrians continue to risk their lives by crossing expressways and highways.

On August 26, 2016, the state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, came up with a new way to enforce the use of pedestrian bridges.

Using his Twitter handle, he announced his plans to erect iron barricades at Berger bus stop.

"Iron barricades will be built at Berger bus stop to discourage pedestrians from crossing the express", he wrote.

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has also stressed the importance of pedestrian bridges.

According to Mr Chima Okonkwo, the FRSC Unit Commander in Kubwa, the use of the bridge ensures road safety.
