Senate suspends power tariff hike till further notice
The senate yesterday, February 16, 2016 halted the February 1, 2106 increase in electricity tariff which was up by about 40% till further notice.

The meeting which was headed by the Senate president, Bukola Saraki was reportedly attended by the minister for power, works and housing, Babatunde Raji Fashola and Dr. Chris Ngige, minister for labour and employment.
Saraki stated that the decision made was necessary because a new tariff should be preceded by quality service delivery from the company.
“Furthermore, the power distribution companies must work to ensure that every establishment in Nigeria is provided with capabilities for metered billing. Doing this would end the sharp practice of arbitrary billing, which estimates the power consumption of Nigerians in the generation of their monthly bills,” he said
