British Council launches 1st ever festival of architecture

Lagos state is getting it's first ever festival of design and architecture called Open House.

According to Victoria Thornton, the founder and director of Open City/Open House Worldwide, the goal of the exhibition is to enlighten residents on their city's architecture.

"Well-designed buildings and public spaces are vital in creating and sustaining a vibrant city and Open House Lagos will enable the wider community to become more knowledgeable, engage in dialogue and make informed judgements about the architecture of their city," she said.

The Director Arts of the British Council Nigeria, Ojoma Ochai, also spoke on the exhibition.

"We are excited to launch the first Open House Lagos, especially because this is the first of it's kind in Africa in a creative sector we have not been known to work extensively in Nigeria. This has been made possible thanks to the passion and drive of the Open House advisory Board, the Open House team and our generous collaborators. We have been privileged  to gain access to buildings that truly demonstrate the best of Lagos architecture. We look forward to welcoming everyone to the weekend's festivities for Open House Lagos 2016."

Thanks to a partnership with Sterling Bank, and media houses, Lagosians get to see over twenty residential and commercial houses, on the Mainland and Island, for free.

Open House begins on April 29th and ends on May 1st.
